One day, hopefully, the gaming (really publishing) industry will begin to understand how to make and market games to all age groups. If the publisher doesn’t state the target demographic outright, the reviewer assumes that the game was meant for him, and ergo, it sucks.
It’s also a problem with reviewing said games, when you expect simple, childish games to maintain the same level of veracity and complexity as those games meant for a more adult audience, even if <10 year olds would be perfectly happy playing it. The problem is that it’s hard to differentiate a more sophisticated adult game from the more childish games, partially because they look the same on the cover, partially because no one even tries to do so. I think it brings up a big and growing issue in computer gaming, which is that there is this assumption that most games are designed for teenage/college aged males, when in fact the target markets are much more diverse. There is nothing wrong with EE3 - if it’s meant for 8 year olds.
